Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 7 LSU in Close Game

Oxford, Miss. — The Ole Miss women’s basketball team edged closer to an upset against No. 7 LSU but ultimately lost 78-70 Thursday night at the SJB Pavilion. The Rebels, ranked 17th in the AP poll, are now 21-7 overall and 8-5 in SEC play, according to school officials.

Cotie McMahon scored 25 points for Ole Miss, marking her 17th game with at least 20 points this season. Her performance ties her with Peggie Gillom for the third-most 20-point games in a single season in program history, and is the most since Bianca Thomas had 19 in the 2009-10 season, per team records.

Teammates Christeen Iwuala and Latasha Lattimore added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Lattimore also recorded eight rebounds and three blocks, marking her 11th game this season with at least three blocks. The Rebels’ frontcourt provided solid contributions, with Iwuala and Lattimore both showing offensive and defensive presence.

Ole Miss led early and battled LSU throughout the game. McMahon hit a three-pointer on her first attempt and scored an early 10 points to help keep the Rebels competitive. LSU took a 26-21 lead into the second quarter, but Ole Miss responded with a strong second period, tying the game at 43-43 before halftime.

In the third quarter, the Rebels extended their lead to 13 points, aided by sharp shooting from Tianna Thompson and hustle plays. However, LSU regained momentum in the final quarter, outscoring Ole Miss by double digits to secure the victory. The Tigers finished with a 78-70 win, improving to 23-4 overall and 9-4 in the SEC.

Ole Miss will next face South Carolina on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT in Columbia. The game will be broadcast on ESPN. The Rebels continue their schedule with ticket sales now available for the upcoming 2025-26 season, according to university officials.
