Ole Miss defeats Alabama 9-0 behind dominant pitching performance

TYSCALOSA, Ala. — Ole Miss’ baseball team shut out Alabama 9-0 Friday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, thanks to a stellar pitching performance from Taylor Rabe and JP Robertson, according to the university.

Rabe pitched six innings, striking out 13 batters and allowing just one hit and one walk, facing 21 batters. Robertson relieved Rabe in the seventh, giving up one hit and walking one with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Robertson earned his first save of the season.

The Rebels improved to 36-19 overall and 15-14 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide fell to 36-18 and 17-12 in the conference. Ole Miss scored early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Will Furniss drove in a run on a groundout after Judd Utermark singled and Tristan Bissetta doubled.

The Rebels extended their lead in the fifth inning, with Owen Paino hitting a solo home run. Furniss added a two-run shot in the same inning, pushing Ole Miss ahead 5-0. The team added four more runs in the eighth and ninth innings, including a two-run homer by Austin Fawley and an RBI single by Furniss.

Furniss and Hayden Federico each had two hits for Ole Miss, which finished with 11 hits in the game. Alabama’s Zane Adams took the loss, falling to 6-4. The teams will face off again in the series finale at 2 p.m. Saturday.
