Ole Miss beats Jackson State 18-3 in midweek baseball game

OXFORD, Miss. — Jackson State dropped an 18-3 decision to No. 16 Ole Miss on Wednesday night at Swayze Field. The Tigers took an early lead but were unable to maintain momentum against the Rebels’ potent offense.

Jackson State (1-3) scored twice in the first inning, with Tyree Reed scoring on a wild pitch and Pierre Cabral driving in a run with a single. Ole Miss (5-0) responded quickly, tying the game and then taking the lead with a three-run first inning. The Rebels added nine runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.

The Tigers managed a late rally, with Robert Tate Jr. driving in a run in the fifth inning to make the score 12-3. However, Ole Miss continued its offensive surge, scoring six more runs in the sixth inning, including a home run from Judd Utermark and a four-RBI blast from Utermark. The game ended with Ole Miss leading 18-3.

Trae Burton, making his first career start, took the loss after allowing eight runs in 2.1 innings. The Rebels’ pitching staff held Jackson State to four hits, spread among four different players. Ole Miss’s offense was led by Utermark’s four-RBI home run and Bissetta’s three-RBI homer.

Jackson State will now travel for three games at the Andre Dawson Classic, beginning Friday against Texas Southern in Vero Beach, Florida. Follow Jackson State athletics via social media or visit GoJSUTigers.com for more updates.
