Ole Miss Adds Veteran European Coach Petar Aleksić to Men’s Basketball Staff
Ole Miss men’s basketball has appointed Petar Aleksić as an assistant coach, head coach Chris Beard announced Tuesday. Aleksić brings extensive international coaching experience spanning nearly 35 years.
He has coached in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Serbia, and the United Arab Emirates. Most recently, he served as head coach of Al Wahda in the West Asia Super League and spent the 2024-25 season with FMP Belgrade, which competes in the ABA League and Basketball Champions League.
Aleksić and Beard previously teamed up to coach the Swiss national team during the 2015 European Championship qualifiers. The duo led Switzerland to a major upset over Russia in the second qualifying round, according to sources.
During his tenure at Fribourg Olympic in Switzerland from 2013 to 2023, Aleksić guided the team to six Swiss League titles, five Swiss Cups, and numerous other domestic honors. He was named Swiss League Coach of the Year five times and Swiss Coach of the Year seven times overall, including league honors in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023.
His coaching resume also includes stints as an assistant at ALBA Berlin, where he helped win the German Bundesliga in 2008 and the German Cup in 2009. Aleksić played professionally for 17 years across Europe, competing in Bosnia, Switzerland, Hungary, Serbia, and Croatia, with teams including Leotar Trebinje, BBC Nyon, ZTE, and KK Zagreb.
