No. 9 Jones College women’s tennis team stays undefeated with win over No. 25 Southwest

ELLISVILLE — The No. 9 Jones College women’s tennis team defeated No. 25 Southwest 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The Bobcats are now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC).

In doubles action, Heidi Clayton of New Albany and Theresa Emelio of Australia earned an 8-5 victory over Martina Morales and Paula Sanchez in the No. 1 doubles match. Maria Martinez and Camila Piquín, both from Argentina, defeated Madelyn Powell and Anna Comeaux 8-1 in No. 2 doubles, while Katlin Porcello of Oak Grove and Josie Tullos of Newton County won No. 3 doubles, 8-1, over Kayla Anderson and Anna Polk.

Piquín beat Sanchez 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Martinez defeated Powell 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles. Porcello topped Kai Jenkins 6-1, 6-0 in No. 4 singles. Caroline Kilpatrick of Brookhaven blanked Comeaux 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles, and Emily Rogers of West Jones shut out Polk 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.

Heidi Clayton was defeated 4-6, 6-7 (5-7) in the No. 1 singles match. Jones is scheduled to play No. 23 Meridian at 11 a.m. Friday.
