Mississippi Valley State Softball Swept in Senior Weekend Opener by Florida A&M

Florida A&M won both games of the series against Mississippi Valley State, defeating the Diamond Devils 19-2 and 12-1 in five innings each Saturday at the MVSU Softball Field in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

The Rattlers improved to 25-17 overall and 16-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Mississippi Valley State fell to 1-34 overall and 0-20 in league play. Florida A&M holds a 24-5 lead in the series history and has an 18-game winning streak against the Diamond Devils.

In the first game, Jamiyah Gary drove in both runs for Florida A&M with a two-RBI single in the second inning. Ashtyn Clark had a hit, walked, and scored once, while Hailey Akers singled and scored. Other contributors included Sheridan Kynard, Madison Wesley, Taniya Partee, and Devyn Dotson.

During the second game, Akers and Kynard each had a single, with Kynard also stealing a base. Senior Jadyn Braxton drew a walk, and Marika Bonner drove in a run with a groundout. Mississippi Valley State’s lone run came on a single by Akers.

Mississippi Valley State will honor its three senior student-athletes — Brooke Edyvane, Ryleigh Ashford, and Jadyn Braxton — prior to Saturday’s game against Florida A&M at 11 a.m. Fans are encouraged to follow the program on social media for updates.
