Mississippi University for Women Volleyball Earns Seventh Consecutive AVCA Academic Honor

The Mississippi University for Women volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2025-26 season. This marks the seventh consecutive year the program has received the honor, which they first earned in 2020.

MUW Director of Athletics Buddy Foster praised the team, saying, “Winning the AVCA Team Academic Award for a seventh straight year shows the lofty goals our volleyball program has set for itself in all aspects. It also reflects the makeup of the individuals on our roster, who handle both the rigors of athletics and academics successfully.”

Across the country, 1,432 volleyball teams earned the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award by maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon noted the significance of the achievement, saying, “It’s no surprise to see more than 1,400 teams earning the award again this season. We are grateful for the dedication of the coaches and players who make classroom and on-court success a priority.”

The Owls’ roster posted a 3.60 GPA during the academic year. They also received four SLIAC All-Academic Team selections, four College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, and nine placements on the Athletic Director Honor Roll.

The AVCA aims to promote volleyball through leadership, advocacy, and professional development, representing more than 10,000 coaches across various levels of the sport in the United States.
