Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Prepares for Top-Ranked SEC Road Matches

Mississippi State’s women’s tennis team is set for a challenging week on the road, facing two nationally ranked Southeastern Conference opponents. The Bulldogs travel to Auburn on March 26 to face the No. 2 Tigers, followed by a match against No. 15 Florida on March 28 in Gainesville, according to athletic communications.

The Bulldogs enter the week after earning their fourth doubleheader sweep of the season, defeating No. 50 Arkansas and Southern Miss with 4-0 scores. The victory over Arkansas marked MSU’s first ITA-ranked win since beating No. 58 Kentucky in 2022, and their first ranked SEC win since defeating No. 31 Alabama that same year.

Mississippi State is currently ranked No. 44 in the latest ITA team rankings. Three Bulldog doubles teams are nationally ranked, led by Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz at No. 22. Chiara Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz are ranked No. 55, while Athina Pitta and Oboniye are ranked No. 52 in the spring rankings.

Auburn, which lost to Georgia this past weekend, last faced Mississippi State in Starkville last season, where the Tigers won 4-0. The Gators are scheduled to host Mississippi State at 11 a.m. CT on March 28. The Bulldogs previously lost to Florida 4-0 in Starkville during the last meeting.
