Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Prepares for SEC Road Matches at Ole Miss and LSU
Mississippi State’s women’s tennis team, ranked 51st nationally, is set for two SEC road matches this week. The Bulldogs will face Ole Miss on April 2 in Oxford at 4 p.m. and then travel to Baton Rouge for a match against LSU on April 4, according to athletic communications.
The team enters the week after losing back-to-back road matches. Mississippi State fell 7-0 to No. 2 Auburn on March 26 and 4-1 to Florida on March 28, marking its eighth loss of the season, the release said.
In doubles play, three Bulldog pairs are nationally ranked. Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz are ranked 20th, while Gianna Oboniye and Kempenaers-Pocz are 32nd. Athina Pitta and Oboniye are ranked 52nd, the release noted.
Ole Miss enters Thursday’s matchup after a 4-1 loss to No. 7 Texas. The Rebels hold the recent edge in the series, with Mississippi State’s last win coming in 2017. The Bulldogs lost to Ole Miss 4-2 last season in Starkville.
LSU faces Alabama on April 2 before hosting Mississippi State. The Tigers lost 4-1 to No. 3 Texas A&M last week. LSU defeated State 4-2 last season, with Mississippi State’s last victory over LSU coming in 2019, when the Bulldogs won 4-3.
