Mississippi State Women’s Golf Finishes 10th at Chevron Collegiate
Humble, Texas — Mississippi State women’s golf finished 10th at the Chevron Collegiate on Tuesday, with a team score of 10-over par. The Bulldogs moved up one position after the final round, according to the tournament’s leaderboard.
Sophomore Samantha Whateley finished tied for 11th place at 2-under par, narrowly missing her fourth career top-five finish. She shot 1-under in the first round, 1-over in the second, and capped the tournament with a 2-under effort in the final round. Whateley recorded four birdies in the last round and has now shot under par three times this season, the most during her career. The South African junior has 23 rounds of par or better in her career and is three away from tying the program record for most such rounds.
Ines Belchior also posted a solid performance, finishing tied for 20th at even par. She maintained that score through all three rounds, marking her ninth par-or-better round of her freshman season. The Portuguese golfer ranks seventh among Bulldogs freshmen in program history for such rounds.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to competition on March 16 in Aiken, South Carolina, for the Old Barnwell Match Play, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
North Carolina led the tournament with a 18-under score, while Oregon and Baylor finished second and third, respectively. Mississippi State’s final team score was 10 over par, placing them behind teams such as Texas State and UNCW.
