Mississippi State Track and Field Opens With Throws Sweep at Maroon and Tune Up
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State’s track and field team wrapped up the first day of its home meet, the Maroon and Tune Up, with a sweep in the throwing events, according to meet notes provided by the university.
Juha Narhi led the way with a throw of 65.86 meters in the hammer throw, setting a new program record and ranking him among the top eight in the Southeastern Conference, the school said. Jewel Giles added a personal best with a throw of 47.56 meters, earning her a victory in her event. Kevin Grubbs also secured a win for the Bulldogs with a 58.27-meter throw, surpassing the field by more than five meters.
The meet continues Friday morning with the women’s pole vault at 10 a.m. The track events will kick off at 3 p.m. with the women’s 4×100-meter relay. Mississippi State will also hold its senior day ceremony, honoring 18 athletes.
