Mississippi State tops No. 15 Tennessee in women’s basketball
Knoxville, Tenn. — Mississippi State upset No. 15 Tennessee 77-62 Thursday night in women’s college basketball. The Bulldogs earned their first victory over a top-25 team this season, improving their record to 16-6 overall and 3-5 in SEC play.
The game started as a defensive battle, with only 21 points scored in the first quarter. Mississippi State took control in the second, scoring 26 points and ending the half on a 9-0 run to lead 26-14 at halftime. They extended their lead in the third quarter and maintained it into the fourth, never allowing Tennessee to catch up.
Kharyssa Richardson led Mississippi State with 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting, marking her third 20-plus point game in SEC play this season. Trayanna Crisp added 15 points, including three three-pointers, along with five rebounds and three steals. Madison Francis posted her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Favour Nwaedozi also contributed a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
