Mississippi State to Face Alabama in SEC Women’s Tennis Championship Opening Round

Mississippi State women’s tennis is set to face Alabama in the first round of the 2026 Southeastern Conference Championships. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT Wednesday at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

The Bulldogs, seeded 13th, finished the regular season with a 16-10 record and a 4-10 mark in SEC play. They lost their final match 4-0 to top-ranked Georgia. Mississippi State is making its third consecutive appearance in the SEC tournament and last won an opening-round match in 2022.

Mississippi State previously defeated Alabama 4-1 in Starkville on Feb. 22. The Bulldogs opened with doubles wins from Athina Pitta and Mia Robinson, as well as Emma Cohen and Thessy Ntondele Zinga. However, Alabama responded in singles to claim the first four courts and secure the victory.

The Crimson Tide finished the season with a 12-11 record, including a 4-11 mark in SEC play. They are seeded 12th in the tournament. Mississippi State enters the postseason ranked 55th nationally, with three doubles pairings ranked among the top 50.

Among notable players, Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz have combined for nine wins in their last 10 matches at No. 1 doubles. Di Genova has also contributed to three of the Bulldogs’ four SEC wins this season. The team’s freshman class has collected 20 singles victories this dual season.
