Mississippi State Faces No. 7 Kentucky in Women’s Basketball Sunday
STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State Bulldogs will conclude a two-game home stand with a matchup against the seventh-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+ and broadcast on the MSU Radio Network at Starkville 96.1.
Mississippi State enters the game with a 14-5 record overall and a 1-4 mark in SEC play. The Bulldogs recently fell short against fifth-ranked Vanderbilt, losing 89-84. Madison Francis led the team with 15 points for her third straight game in double figures. Favour Nwaedozi added 14 points, while Kharyssa Richardson and Saniyah King scored 13 each. King’s 13 was a season high.
Trayanna Crisp tied her career high with seven assists and added three steals in her eight-point performance. Thursday’s game marked the first time in 15 contests that Mississippi State lost while outscoring its opponent in the paint. Four Bulldogs are averaging double digits in points per game, including Francis (13.2), Nwaedozi (13.1), Destiney McPhaul (11.7), and Chandler Prater (10.1). Jaylah Lampley contributes 9.6 points per game.
In SEC play, Richardson is averaging 10.8 points and five rebounds per game, above her season averages. Prater is also posting her best season, with averages of 10.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and shooting percentages of 45.3% from the field and 40% from three-point range.
Kentucky improved to 17-2 after a 94-89 victory over Florida. The Wildcats are led by Clara Strack, who averages 16.4 points, and Tonie Morgan, with 15 points per game. Kentucky features two of the SEC’s top shot blockers—Strack and Madison Francis, who is tied with Strack with 55 blocks (2.89 per game). The Wildcats rank second nationally with 7.4 blocks per game.
Historically, Kentucky leads the series 33-24. In Starkville, the Wildcats hold a 12-11 advantage. Under Mississippi State head coach Sam Purcell, the Bulldogs are 2-2 against Kentucky.
