McComb’s Kate Clements Signs with UAB Softball
Kate Clements, a sophomore catcher for Southwest Mississippi Softball, has signed with the University of Alabama at Birmingham to continue her academic and athletic career, according to her coach and family members.
Clements, a McComb native and North Pike High School graduate, has been a key player for the Lady Bears, starting every game in her career. During her freshman season, she posted a .305 batting average with 36 hits, including six doubles, three home runs, and 25 RBIs. She also had an on-base percentage of .401 and scored 25 runs.
In her sophomore year, Clements improved in nearly every category. She batted .366 with 49 hits, 10 doubles, six home runs, and 24 RBIs. Her on-base percentage increased to .427, and she scored 32 runs. Over two seasons, she also stole 11 bases and helped lead the Lady Bears to a playoff appearance in 2026.
Clements expressed her admiration for UAB’s program, citing its facilities and coaching staff. “Their program is fantastic. Their facilities and everything are so nice, and their coaches do a lot of stuff that I actually work on for hitting,” she said. “It’s just an overall great program and environment to be around.”
She added that her time at Southwest Mississippi has fostered lifelong friendships. “I can take my friendships with me. I’ve made some of my best friends here, and I plan on some of them being in my wedding,” Clements said. “Southwest has given me that, and I am super grateful for it.”
Clements is the third Lady Bear this year to commit to a four-year college program, continuing her athletic journey at UAB, where she hopes to build on her success.
