Lee Edges Delta State in 11-Inning NCAA Baseball Game

Penacola, Florida — Lee University defeated Delta State 4-3 in 11 innings Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. The game was a tight contest that extended into extra innings.

Delta State took an early lead in the third inning when Levi Lang hit a two-run home run to left field, scoring Tucker Jones. Adrian Byrd pitched well for the Statesmen, tossing 7.2 innings with eight strikeouts while allowing two runs.

Lee responded with solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings, eventually taking a 3-2 lead in the ninth. Delta State rallied in the bottom half, with Cade Greer scoring on a Henley Parker RBI groundout, tying the game and sending it to extras.

After a scoreless 10th inning, Lee regained the lead with a solo homer in the 11th. The Statesmen threatened in the bottom half, drawing three walks but failing to score the tying run.

Lang finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run, while Tucker Jones added two hits. Delta State will face Edward Waters University in an elimination game Friday at 1 p.m.
