Jackson State Garners Eight Phil Steele Preseason All-Conference Selections
Jackson State has eight players selected to the Phil Steele Preseason All-Conference teams, including four on the first team and four on the second, according to a Monday announcement.
Wide receiver Nate Rembert earned first-team honors after playing in 12 games last season, with 11 starts. He led the team with 45 receptions for 750 yards and seven touchdowns. Rembert averaged 16.7 yards per catch and 62.5 yards per game. He also ran six times for 74 yards and a touchdown, and returned five kicks, including four punts. Rembert’s season highlights include 100 receiving yards against Alcorn State and two touchdowns against Mississippi Valley State.
Teammate Joanes Fortilien, who played only two games last season before an injury, was named to the first team after recording 37 receptions for 565 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024. He had a season-long 70-yard reception and caught a pass in all 13 games. Fortilien’s top game included six receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns against Alabama A&M.
On the offensive line, Quaveon Davis was named to the first team. He helped Jackson State rank second nationally in rushing offense and contributed to a productive offensive unit that finished the regular season with top-20 national rankings in total offense, third-down conversions, and scoring. Davis, a senior, maintained an 88% grade and allowed only 1.5 sacks last season.
Defensive back Kam Sallis was also a first-team selection. He played all 11 games last season, recording 53 tackles, two interceptions, and two pass breakups. Sallis forced two fumbles and was named a second-team All-Conference pick last year. He was also an Aeneas Williams Award Semifinalist.
The second team included quarterback Jared Lockhart, who played in seven games with five starts. He completed 76 of 113 passes for 1,187 yards and eight touchdowns. Lockhart also ran for 189 yards and three touchdowns. He earned SWAC co-Newcomer of the Week honors twice and was named the FCS HBCU National Player of the Week after a strong performance against Alcorn State.
Defensive players recognized on the second team included linebacker Carmello Jones, who recorded 36 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss in 10 games, and corner KJ Chisholm Jr., who had 34 tackles and five pass breakups in 12 games. Micah Gay, a transfer from Tennessee State, made the second team after recording 61 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions last season.
