Jackson State beats Alabama State 9-6 in series finale

Jackson State defeated Alabama State 9-6 on Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field, winning the third game of their Southwestern Athletic Conference series. The Tigers took the lead in the third inning and maintained it for the victory, according to the school.

Jackson State scored two runs in the third inning after a wild pitch and a single by Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. The Tigers then added five runs in the fourth, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Diego Melendez and an RBI single from Hederick Torres. They scored two more runs in the sixth to extend their lead.

Derek Arrocha earned the win, pitching eight innings and allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits. He struck out nine batters. Kade Walker pitched the ninth inning to earn his second save, securing the win for the Tigers.

At the plate, Jackson State totaled 14 hits. Pierre Cabral led with a 3-for-4 effort, scoring three runs and driving in an RBI. Torres also went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Hudson finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBIs. Melendez and Harris each had two hits in the game.

The series began with Alabama State taking the opener and losing the second game in extra innings, as the Tigers completed the sweep in the finale. Jackson State will next travel to Alabama A&M for a conference series next weekend, according to school officials.
