Jackson State Athletes Selected for 2026 HBCU Swingman Classic
Jackson State University announced that five of its baseball players have been selected for the 2026 HBCU Swingman Classic, scheduled for July 10 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The event coincides with this year’s MLB All-Star Weekend and features 50 top Division I prospects.
The players were chosen by a committee including MLB officials, scouts, and Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. The selected Tigers include pitchers Derek Arrocha and Talmadge Davis, outfielders Pierre Cabral and Tyree Reed, and infielder Robert Tate Jr., marking Tate’s third selection.
Arrocha finished the season with a 7-6 record, a 5.94 ERA, and a 1.66 WHIP over 19 appearances. The junior righthander pitched 83.1 innings, striking out 83 batters and walking 36. He earned SWAC Newcomer of the Week honors in February and was named Pitcher of the Week twice.
Davis posted a 2-2 record with a 4.64 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 22 appearances, including 10 starts. The sophomore righthander struck out 74 batters in 54.1 innings and recorded two complete games. He was named Pitcher of the Week twice this season.
Reed, an outfielder, batted .401 with a .538 on-base percentage, contributing 23 extra-base hits, 63 runs scored, and 41 RBIs. Cabral, also an outfielder, hit .320 with 27 extra-base hits, 52 runs, and 53 RBIs. Tate, playing third base this season, finished with a .319 batting average, 54 runs, and 40 RBIs, along with 13 stolen bases.
