Itawamba Stuns Jones College with Last-Second Win

ELLISVILLE, Miss. — Itawamba College snapped Jones College’s 19-game winning streak in conference play with a 75-74 victory Monday night. The game was decided in the final 30 seconds when DJ Davis made a 16-foot jumper to give ICC the lead.

Itawamba, which improved to 15-6 overall and 6-1 in the MACCC, handed Jones its first loss in conference play since Jan. 13, 2025, in Fulton. Jones fell to 17-6 overall and 6-1 in the league and will travel to Coahoma on Thursday.

The Indians dominated the opening 13 minutes, building a 17-point lead, 35-18, with 7:09 remaining in the first half. Jones responded with a 12-2 run, capped by six straight points from Keron Jackson, bringing the score within seven. ICC led by 10 at halftime.

Jones trimmed the deficit early in the second half, with eight of the first 10 points, including a three from Braylon Barnes and a layup from Bob Dickson, making it 42-38. Dylan Rowe’s two free throws with 12:49 remaining gave Jones its first lead at 50-49.

From there, neither team led by more than four points. Two free throws from Rowe with 3:23 left put Jones ahead 73-69, but ICC responded with a pair of free throws from Davis and a tip-in from Dailin Cooperwood to tie the game at 73-73. Dickson was fouled on the next possession, made the first free throw but missed the second, leaving the score tied.

ICC then took the lead with Davis’ only made field goal of the game, a jumper that put them ahead 75-74. Barnes missed a go-ahead three-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining, and Jones could not get another shot off to win.

Jackson led Jones with 22 points off the bench, followed by Dylan Rowe with 20. Dickson added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Jay Tyler scored 10. ICC was led by Tim Holliday with 20 points and Damarion Winston with 18.
