Hinds Track and Field Sets National Record at Belhaven Invitational to Open Outdoor Season
CLINTON, Miss. — The Hinds Community College Track and Field team opened the 2026 outdoor season with a record-breaking performance Saturday at the Belhaven Invitational.
The highlight came in the men’s 4×100-meter relay, where the Eagles posted a time of 38.23 seconds to set a new NJCAA national record. The relay team, consisting of Raheem, Jayval, Robert, and Curtis, delivered the fastest junior college time in history.
Hinds continued its success in relay events, winning the men’s 4×400-meter relay in 3:09.13. The team’s B squad placed third in 3:14.44, demonstrating depth across the relay events. On the women’s side, Hinds dominated the 4×400-meter relay, taking first in 3:42.67, with a second relay squad finishing second in 3:57.72.
In individual sprints, Angel Cumberbatch led the women’s 400 meters with a second-place finish in 55.27 seconds. Morgan Bradley finished fifth in 58.61, while Mikenzy Hodges-Woods and Shaniyah Walker placed sixth and seventh, respectively. The men’s 400 meters featured strong performances from Nathanael Abrahams, who finished second in 48.92 seconds, and Da’Jarian Leonard, who was third in 49.48. Vernon Green III finished fourth in 49.64, and Christian Washington took fifth in 50.11.
In field events, Anthony Cooley won the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.29 meters (23 feet, 11 inches). Hinds Track and Field will next compete April 2 at the Belhaven Midweek Open. The team’s latest results can be followed on Twitter and Instagram at @HindsAthletics and on Facebook.
