Hinds Baseball Beats Southwest Mississippi, Advances to Region 23 Tournament

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Hinds Community College baseball team secured its spot in the Region 23 Tournament with an 8-1 win over Southwest Mississippi Community College on Monday afternoon in a play-in game.

Hinds jumped to an early lead in the first inning and maintained control throughout the game. The Eagles added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings, including a three-run surge in the fifth that helped seal the victory.

Brady Griffin pitched a complete game for Hinds, scattering six hits and allowing just one run. His performance kept Southwest Mississippi off balance and helped the Eagles secure the win.

Offensively, Lane Almond led the team with four RBIs. Brody Breithaupt and Ethan Keen contributed key hits that kept pressure on the opposition. Defensively, Hinds turned two double plays and limited any momentum swings from Southwest Mississippi.

With the win, Hinds advances to face top-seeded Pearl River in the first round of the Region 23 Tournament on Tuesday, May 5, at 2 p.m. The team will look to continue its postseason run in the playoffs.
