Delta State Wins 400-Yard Medley Relay at NSISC Championships

Michael Kloth reports from Pensacola, Florida, where Delta State University swimmers claimed several top-three finishes Thursday at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Conference Championships.

The team secured second place in the 100-yard butterfly and took silver in the 400-yard individual medley. Sophomore Kacper Mochnal led the way in the 100 fly, finishing second in 48.75 seconds after qualifying in 48.99. Freshman Ashtin Wallace added a B-final score of 50.64 seconds, and sophomore Luis Ploner and Carter Foster contributed points from the lower finals.

Junior Riley Oakes recorded Delta State’s top individual performance of the night, finishing second in the 400 IM with a time of 3:57.33, earning an NCAA Division II B-cut. Oakes was at 1:51.15 at the 200-yard mark before closing strongly in 27.78 seconds on the final 50 yards. Senior Neill Mauss also secured a B-final victory in 4:09.87, while sophomore Eudald Tosquella scored from the A-final.

The Statesmen concluded the night with a gold medal in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Oakes, Jacob Hamblen, Mochnal, and Ethan Baylin finished in 3:14.55.

After 20 events, Delta State sits third in the team standings with 450.5 points, trailing Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State, according to meet organizers.
