Delta State Walks Off Arkansas-Monticello in 11-Inning Baseball Thriller

Delta State University’s baseball team defeated Arkansas-Monticello 8-7 in 11 innings Tuesday night at Ferriss Field. The Statesmen rallied in the bottom of the 11th inning to secure the victory, with Tucker Jones delivering a two-run double to right-center that scored Austin Estes and Henley Parker.

Delta State scored first with two runs in the opening inning, taking advantage of UAM errors. The Weevils responded with a three-run third, briefly taking a 3-2 lead. Levi Lang answered immediately for Delta State with a solo home run to tie the game at 3.

The Statesmen regained the lead with a two-run fourth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Cooper Walls and Jacob Hill. They added another run in the sixth to push the lead to 6-3. Arkansas-Monticello fought back in the seventh, scoring three runs — two on a throwing error — to tie the game at 6.

The Weevils took a 7-6 lead in the top of the 11th before Delta State mounted its final rally. Jones led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, including the walk-off. Lang added two hits and an RBI, while Walls scored twice and drove in a run. Austin Estes crossed the plate twice in the win.

On the mound, Dawson Muenzenmay (5-1) earned the win after recording the final out in the top of the 11th. The team used five pitchers overall, with Aidan McCrady providing a key four-inning relief effort to keep Delta State within striking distance. The game ended with Delta State tallying eight runs on nine hits, while Arkansas-Monticello finished with seven runs on nine hits.

The Statesmen will continue Gulf South Conference play this weekend against Trevecca Nazarene University on the road.
