Delta State Softball Hosts Mississippi College for Senior Day Series

The Delta State University softball team will host Mississippi College in a three-game series at University Field this weekend. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m., according to the school’s release.

Senior day festivities are scheduled between the first and second games on Friday. The Lady Statesmen enter the series with a 12-32 record overall and a 6-21 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Choctaws hold a 25-19-1 record overall and are 15-12 in conference games.

Leading the Lady Statesmen at the plate is Kyleigh Wheaton, who is batting .361 with 11 doubles and nine home runs. Maeve Lavoy has also been a key contributor offensively, batting .356 with four doubles and one home run. Lavoy has been effective on the mound as well, posting a 4.63 ERA over 116.1 innings with 76 strikeouts. Senior Calli McConnell recently had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 in her last appearance.

For Mississippi College, Megan Matheis leads the offense with a .402 batting average, including seven doubles and two home runs. Blakely Gill has provided power with a .350 batting average, 14 doubles, seven homers, and 32 RBIs. Reagan Rios is the top pitcher for the Choctaws, pitching 102.2 innings with a 3.41 ERA and 67 strikeouts.

The series offers a chance for both teams to showcase their talents before the postseason. Fans are encouraged to attend and support the players during the senior day celebrations.
