Delta State Softball Aims for Final Series Win at Lee

The Delta State University softball team will face Lee University in their final weekend series of the season. The games are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Stanley Butler Softball Field in Cleveland, Tennessee.

The series features a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Friday, with a third game set for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Lady Statesmen hope to finish the season strong and replicate last year’s series win against the Flames, which was cut short due to rain after Delta State swept the two games.

Delta State enters the series with a 12-35 record overall and a 6-24 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The team holds a 14-15 all-time record against Lee. Kyleigh Wheaton and Carly Dunigan lead the team offensively, each batting .338 this season with a combined 15 home runs and 22 doubles. Wheaton has driven in 36 RBIs, while Dunigan has 27 RBIs.

Maeve Lavoy is the team’s top hitter with a .375 batting average. She also leads in pitching, with 78 strikeouts in 123 innings and a 4.95 ERA. Joryie McKnight has stolen 16 bases and is batting .322 with 24 runs scored, contributing on both offense and the base paths.

For Lee, Alyson Jarvi has been a key player, batting .290 with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs. Hailey Simco is also notable, batting .313 with 56 hits, 34 runs scored, and 28 RBIs. Kaylee Underwood has thrown the most innings for the Flames, totaling 110 with a 5.28 ERA and 42 strikeouts.

The series provides an opportunity for Delta State to finish its season with a win and build momentum heading into the off-season.
