Blue Mountain’s Wilson Named SSAC Freshman of the Year

Montgomery, Alabama — Kaedyn Wilson of Blue Mountain Christian was named the SSAC Freshman of the Year following her standout debut season in track and field, according to the conference. Wilson made a strong impression at the SSAC Championships, setting a school record in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 39:59.42, earning a bronze medal.

She also finished third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:50.63, earning her a second bronze medal at the meet. Her performances played a key role in elevating the Toppers’ position in the conference standings. Head Coach Phillip Laney praised Wilson’s consistency and effort, saying she “shows up, puts in the work, and competes the right way.”

In addition to Wilson’s individual achievement, Blue Mountain Christian received multiple conference honors. Eleven athletes from the team were named to the SSAC All-Academic Team, reflecting their commitment to academics and athletics. The Toppers also earned recognition on the Champions of Character Team, with Jonah Barnhardt and Ella Shepherd honored for their leadership and integrity in line with NAIA core values.

Wilson’s accolade and the team’s honors highlight the program’s success both on the track and in the classroom, according to the conference.
