Alcorn Women’s Tennis Defeats Mississippi Valley State 5-0
The Alcorn State women’s tennis team defeated Mississippi Valley State 5-0 Thursday afternoon at Halls Ferry Tennis Courts in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The win marked a strong performance in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match.
Alcorn claimed the doubles point early with victories from Zoe Crimmel and Oihane Villanueva Lopez, who blanked Tori Carter and Princess Bass 6-0 on court three. Katherine Grados and Natalija Nikolic followed with a 6-0 win over Lilly Gansauge and Nina Schiks at the No. 2 spot. The top doubles match featuring Hana Bajramovic and Amelia Tatafu was left unfinished after the team result was already secured.
In singles play, Alcorn continued their winning streak. Matea Andelic, Crimmel, Oihane Villanueva Lopez, and Katherine Grados each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at positions six, two, four, and five, respectively. Hana Bajramovic and Natalija Nikolic were leading their matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles when play was halted with the outcome decided.
Mississippi Valley State drops to 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the SWAC. Alcorn is scheduled to finish the regular season Saturday, traveling to Jackson State for a conference match set for 1 p.m. in Jackson, Mississippi.
