Alcorn State Lands Six on SWAC Preseason All-Conference Teams
Alcorn State has six players named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference preseason all-conference teams, including two first-team honorees, the league announced Wednesday from Birmingham, Alabama.
Cameran Rogers, a junior offensive lineman from Theodore, Alabama, was selected to the first team on offense. He played in 11 games as a sophomore and helped block for an offense that averaged 24.25 points per game in 2025. Rogers also contributed to the rushing attack, which gained 178.3 yards per game, and protected quarterback Jaylon Tolbert, who threw for 2,128 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.
Defensively, Eric Thomas Jr., a junior defensive lineman from Columbus, Mississippi, received first-team honors. Last season, Thomas recorded 26 tackles in 12 games, including 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He also forced a fumble and registered four quarterback hurries.
On special teams, punter Demetrion Duvall was named to the first team after finishing second in the SWAC with 49 punts for 2,093 yards, averaging 42.7 yards per kick. Duvall’s longest punt was 63 yards, and he placed 14 kicks inside the 20-yard line. He also had 13 punts of 50 yards or more, tied for second in the league.
Additional second-team selections included offensive lineman Abe Diallo, who blocked for the rushing attack and contributed to the team’s ground game. On defense, Kenneth Andrews and Tayvion Haney earned second-team honors. Andrews made 33 tackles last season, while Haney had 29 tackles and led the team with six pass breakups.
The preseason offensive player of the year was Andrew Body of Alabama State, and the defensive player of the year was Kam Sallis of Jackson State. Alcorn State opens the season on Saturday, Aug. 29, hosting Miles at Jack Spinks – Marino Casem Stadium at 6 p.m., according to team officials.
