Alcorn Softball Concludes Season with Senior Day and Series Losses to UAPB

Alcorn State Softball wrapped up its season Friday at the Alcorn Softball Complex in Lorman, Mississippi, with a series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Golden Lions won both games, claiming the series win with scores of 6-4 and 8-6, respectively.

In the first game, UAPB scored five runs in the second inning and held on for a 6-4 victory. Lyric Perry led the Golden Lions offensively with a solo home run and a two-run triple. Janiah Wilson also contributed with a triple and two RBIs. Alcorn responded with four runs, but couldn’t overcome the early deficit. Traelen Humphrey earned the win in relief, scattering three hits over 4.1 innings. Chiara Olison took the loss for the Braves.

The second game saw UAPB jump to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and never trail. The Golden Lions added four runs in the third and fourth innings before Alcorn threatened in the seventh, scoring four runs. However, UAPB’s reliever Traelen Humphrey secured her second save of the season. Kaydrian Fields delivered a two-run single that proved decisive in the sixth inning. Alcorn’s Ka’Miya Dillon led the offense with three hits and two RBIs in her final game.

Throughout the day, Alcorn also celebrated Senior Appreciation Day, honoring Yahnya Acevedo, Jamyiyah Cotten, Ka’Miya Dillon, Mariah Morgan and student assistant Ryan Thompson. The season marked the final appearance for several players, with the team reflecting on their contributions.
