Smithville headed to State Championship after North Half sweep

The Smithville Lady Seminoles find themselves in familiar territory, heading to the State Championship after a North Half victory.

The Lady Noles are making their 7th fastpitch softball state championship appearance since 2008 after a sweep of Pine Grove at North Half.

Smithville took game one in dramatic fashion on the road, winning 4-3 in 8 innings. In a game where runs were at a premium, the Lady Noles got RBI’s from Tara Parham, Taylor King, Maddie Mason on a solo homerun and Harley Hatley. Emma Kate Hester and Lara Grace Woods added multiple hits. Annie Morgan played standout defense at 3rd base and Chloe Summerford kept the Lady Panther’s off base with her changeup.

In game two, Smithville again put up 4 runs on the board but held the Lady Panthers scoreless for a 4-0 victory. The scoring was highlighted by an Annie Morgan double in the 3rd inning and a SAC fly in the 5th as they kept Pine Grove off the base paths again, clinching the series and punching their ticket to the state championship.

Smithville is set to take on Vardaman on Thursday in Hattiesburg. More pictures on facebook (Monroe County Sports) and Instagram (sportsmississippi).
