Rockett takes off to lead Water Valley in win over Ripley
Things looked bleak for the defending 3A state champion Water Valley Blue Devils in their season opening road trip to Ripley on Friday.
Senior standout Martavius Rockett would come through with a pair of huge plays late in the fourth quarter to ensure the season started off with a bang.
Rockett caught an 11 yard Jacob Truss touchdown pass with 4:23 to play in the ball game to tie the game at 13. The ensuing extra point gave Water Valley it’s first lead of the night.
With Ripley driving deep in their territory, Rockett again came up with a big play, this time on defense, picking off Ripley’s Tristan Vandiver on their own 12 yard line with 1:12 to play to seal the victory.
Water Valley is at home next Friday against North Pontotoc.
