Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell has been named to the watchlist for one of the most prestigious awards in college basketball, the John R. Wooden Award, as announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Thursday.

Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early frontrunners for the most prominent honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award.

Murrell has earned plenty of attention across the nation leading up to the 2024-25 season, including spots on the watchlists for the National Player of the Year and Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year by the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. He also earned preseason all-conference recognition from both the media and coaches.

Ole Miss currently owns a spot on both the AP and Coaches Top-25 Polls, ranking 24th and 25th, respectively.
