MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Ole Miss volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat at Memphis on Tuesday night at Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Despite a strong performance from Jorda Crook, who finished with 18 kills, the Rebels could not secure the win.
Crook also contributed nine digs and five blocks for Ole Miss (6-3). The Rebels gained an early advantage in the first set, hitting .344 and opening with a 7-3 lead after a 6-0 run. Crook and Melia Johnson each had five kills in that set, which Ole Miss took 25-13.
However, Memphis responded in the second set, taking an 8-7 lead before a 9-0 run gave the Tigers a commanding 16-8 advantage. Ole Miss fought back to make it 21-17 but ultimately lost the set 25-18. The third set saw the Rebels lead 10-7 early, but Memphis rallied with an 8-0 run to clinch the set.
In the final set, Jaidyn Hartsfield provided energy off the bench as Ole Miss jumped ahead 6-3. The Rebels maintained a lead at 12-9 before Memphis rallied to take control late. The Tigers earned several match points at 24-20, but Ole Miss forced extra points, tying it at 24-24. Despite saving multiple match points, the Rebels fell 30-28, ending the match.
Ole Miss will continue its road stretch Friday at the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kansas, facing No. 22 Kansas at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN Plus.
