Ole Miss Upsets No. 7 LSU in Home Thriller
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss handed No. 7 LSU its first loss of the season with a 32-24 victory Saturday night at Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium. The Rebels improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC, while LSU fell to 2-1, 0-1 in conference play.
The Rebels secured their 14th consecutive home win, tying for the second-longest streak in FBS. They also set a stadium attendance record with 70,033 fans on hand.
Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Chambliss completed 33 of 48 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns. He extended his school record to 16 consecutive games with a touchdown pass, tying Eli Manning for third in school history.
Running back Kewan Lacy rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown, marking his 12th straight game with a rushing score. Wide receiver Traylon Ray led the team with seven catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Jaylon Braxton sealed the victory with his first interception of the season. Linebackers Tah’j Butler and Sharif Denson led the team with eight tackles each. Will Echoles recorded three tackles for loss and a sack.
Ole Miss opened the scoring with a 37-yard field goal from Lucas Carneiro. The Rebels then scored two touchdowns in the first half, including a 21-yard pass from Chambliss to Ray and a 20-yard reception from Alexander. LSU responded with a touchdown run in the second quarter, but Ole Miss led 24-7 at halftime.
In the second half, LSU mounted a comeback, with quarterback Sam Leavitt rushing for a touchdown and throwing a 26-yard pass to Winston Watkins Jr. to cut the lead to 24-21. The Tigers tied the game at 24 with a field goal early in the fourth quarter.
Ole Miss responded with a 14-yard quarterback keeper from Chambliss, followed by a successful two-point conversion to go up 30-24. The Rebels then forced a turnover on LSU’s final drive and secured the win with a final field goal from Carneiro.
