Ole Miss tops Auburn 45-15, extends home streak to 16

Ole Miss defeated Auburn 45-15 on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, extending its home winning streak to 16 games. The streak tied for the second-longest active run in the Football Bowl Subdivision and was the longest among Power Four programs, the school said.

Coach Pete Golding praised the team’s effort and said players focused on the present after discussing the need to learn from past mistakes without getting ahead of themselves. He said the performance was not perfect, but singled out the offense’s efficiency and the way players responded to coaching during the week.

Shekai Mills-Knight had career highs with 16 carries for 71 yards. The school said both totals exceeded his previous career totals. Mills-Knight said his work on the scout team had prepared him for the opportunity and that he kept working while waiting for his chance to contribute.

Ole Miss scored four rushing touchdowns. Trinidad Chambliss, Echoles, Knight and Mills-Knight each ran for a score, according to the school.

Linebacker Keaton Thomas forced the first fumble of his college career in the second quarter. The Rebels also posted a season high with 10 tackles for loss. Thomas said communication and defensive adjustments helped the unit, adding that his role included getting teammates lined up and delivering checks quickly.

Chambliss passed 6,000 career passing yards at Ole Miss and extended his streak of games with a touchdown pass to 21. That put him one game short of Chad Kelly’s school record of 22, according to the school. Chambliss recorded his seventh game with multiple touchdown passes this season and his 12th at Ole Miss.

Chambliss said he had been dwelling on recent performances and expectations, but focused against Auburn on playing confidently and enjoying the game. He said he wanted to appreciate the opportunity to play in front of Ole Miss fans.
