Ole Miss football defeats Charlotte 41-9 in home opener

Ole Miss secured its 13th consecutive home win Saturday, defeating Charlotte 41-9 in its season opener at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The victory marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs, according to university officials.

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss led the Rebels’ offense, completing 23 of 26 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. He also extended his streak to 15 consecutive games with a passing score, tying for third-longest in school history.

Running back Kewan Lacy scored twice on the ground, tying him for fourth all-time at Ole Miss with 27 rushing touchdowns. Lacy finished with 87 rushing yards and 12 points scored, moving into 14th place in career rushing yards at the school.

Defensively, safety Nick Cull recorded his first career interception, returning it 38 yards. Linebacker Luke Ferrelli led the team with six tackles, including five solo stops. Freshman Cameron Reed made his debut with four tackles and a tackle for loss.

Special teams played a key role, with Jehiem Oatis blocking a field goal in the first half and Lucas Carneiro connecting from 57 yards, tying for the second-longest field goal in Ole Miss history at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Attendance was reported at 68,134, ranking third all-time at the stadium. Ole Miss, under head coach Pete Golding, improved to 3-1 against non-conference opponents this season.
