No. 9 Ole Miss Defeats Charlotte 41-9 in Home Opener

OXFORD, Miss. — No. 9 Ole Miss beat Charlotte 41-9 Saturday night at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, marking the Rebels’ 13th consecutive home victory, the third-longest active streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Rebels improved to 2-0 with the win, which also extended their winning streak to nine of their last 10 games dating back to October 2025, according to the university.

Ole Miss’s offense dominated in the first half, scoring five times on six drives and outgaining Charlotte 245 yards to 118. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 23 of 26 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Kewan Lacy rushed for 87 yards and two scores, extending his streak to 11 straight games with a rushing touchdown — the longest in Ole Miss history since 1956.

Backup quarterback Deuce Knight scored his first career rushing touchdown late in the game, helping Ole Miss extend its lead. Receiver Deuce Alexander led the team with eight catches for 76 yards, while Horatio Fields scored his first touchdown as a Rebel on a nine-yard pass from Chambliss.

Defensively, Nick Cull recorded his first career interception and returned it 38 yards. Luke Ferrelli led the Rebels with six tackles, including five solo stops. The defense held Charlotte to 3-for-14 on third downs and managed to block a field goal attempt in the first quarter.

Ole Miss will host LSU on Saturday, Sept. 19, in a matchup broadcast on ABC. The game will feature ESPN’s College GameDay, which will be in Oxford for the third time. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
