Woodruff Wins World Series With Brewers, Eighth Mississippi State Champion

Brandon Woodruff became the eighth Mississippi State player to win a World Series after the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in five games. Woodruff pitched the ninth inning of Milwaukee’s 10-1 victory in Game 3, his first appearance since a shoulder injury on July 4.

Woodruff faced five batters and struck out one in the inning. He finished the regular season 2-2 with a 2.98 ERA in nine games, all starts. In the postseason, he allowed one earned run in one inning.

Mississippi State reported that 51 former players were in professional baseball in 2026, including eight major leaguers. The school’s list of major leaguers includes All-Stars Adam Frazier, Brent Rooker, Jordan Westburg and Woodruff, as well as World Series champion Nathaniel Lowe. Rooker and Woodruff each have been selected to two All-Star teams.

Among the other major leaguers in the update, Lowe hit .252 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs in the regular season for Cleveland. Rooker hit .200 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs for the Athletics, while Frazier batted .240 for the Los Angeles Angels. Westburg missed the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Several former Bulldogs had notable minor league seasons. In Double-A, outfielder Connor Hujasak hit .288 with 28 home runs and 93 RBIs for Montgomery. Dakota Jordan batted .283 with 19 home runs and 74 RBIs for Richmond. In Single-A, third baseman Ace Reese hit .440 with three home runs in 75 at-bats for Inland Empire.

Mississippi State said its baseball program has produced 72 major leaguers, 13 All-Stars with 30 selections, seven World Series champions and 21 first-round draft picks. The school said it plans to publish weekly updates on former Bulldogs playing professionally.
