No. 16 Mississippi State Hosts No. 7 Alabama in SEC Showdown
Mississippi State (4-0, 2-0 SEC) will face Alabama (4-0, 2-0 SEC) in a highly anticipated college football matchup Saturday at 11 a.m. at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville. The game will be broadcast on ABC, with streaming available on the ESPN app.
The Bulldogs are one of five teams nationally with multiple wins against Power Five teams with winning records this season. They also boast multiple Power Five road wins and remain undefeated in SEC play, according to Mississippi State Athletics.
Quarterback Kamario Taylor, a sophomore from Macon, Mississippi, leads the nation with 14 touchdown passes and averages 24 points responsible for per game. He has accumulated 1,377 total yards of offense, leading all SEC quarterbacks, the university said.
Defensively, Mississippi State made critical plays in last week’s win over Missouri. The Bulldogs recorded 15 pass breakups, led by cornerbacks Jett Jefferson and Kelley Jones, who combined for nine breakups.
Last week, the Bulldogs overcame deficits to secure wins. They rallied from a 16-0 deficit against South Carolina and a second-half deficit against Missouri to improve to 4-0 overall. The matchup Saturday features two top-five teams in ESPN’s Strength of Record ranking, with Alabama at No. 4 and Mississippi State at No. 5.
