Mississippi State’s Amaree Williams Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State defensive end Amaree Williams has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week. The award follows his standout performance in the Bulldogs’ 24-17 victory at South Carolina on Saturday, according to the team.

Williams led Mississippi State with 10 tackles, all solo, and contributed to a strong defensive effort. He recorded two tackles for loss totaling five yards, including a one-yard sack, and added a quarterback hurry. Early in the game, he also intercepted a pass, though the play was negated by a penalty.

His defensive efforts helped hold South Carolina to minus-15 yards over 10 plays during the Gamecocks’ first four second-half drives. The resilient defensive performance kept South Carolina at bay and contributed to Mississippi State’s largest road comeback win since 2021. The Bulldogs now rank among only two teams nationwide with multiple road wins against Power Five opponents this season.
