Mississippi State Soccer Posts Third Consecutive Scoreless Draw, Ties Program Record

Mississippi State’s women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 0-0 draw against No. 11 South Carolina on Friday night. The game marked the Bulldogs’ third consecutive scoreless tie, tying the program record for most ties in a single season, set in 2022.

State, now 7-1-4 overall and 1-0-4 in Southeastern Conference play, also achieved its second shutout of a top-15 opponent this season. Head coach Kevin O’Brien praised his team’s defensive effort, noting that the Bulldogs have become a difficult team to break down defensively.

Mississippi State outshot South Carolina 12-8, including a second-half advantage of 8-4. Forward Kati Anne Shepherd made a notable defensive save on the goal line in the 68th minute, while Kara Harris led the team with three shots, all on target. Laila Murillo and Rebeka Vega each took three shots as well, with Vega and Murillo each putting one shot on goal.

O’Brien emphasized the team’s offensive creation, despite the scoreless result, saying, “We were creating chances, and we’ve just got to continue to work on our finishing and burying the ball when we get an opportunity.” The Bulldogs will host Texas A&M next Friday at 7 p.m. on SEC Network+.
