Mississippi State QB Kamario Taylor Embraces Spotlight Amid Early Success

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor remains grounded despite growing national attention after two standout performances to begin the 2026 college football season. Taylor discussed his decision to stay close to home for college during an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show Monday.

“Starkville is one of a kind when it’s on fire,” Taylor said. “It’s early, but Starkville is already ablaze. I’ve served as the match that lit the flame.”

The Bulldogs’ early success has been driven by a strong defense and an offense averaging 620.5 yards per game. Yet, Taylor’s versatility, leadership, and Mississippi roots have made him the face of the team. “I know what I signed up for and I wouldn’t change it,” Taylor said. “God placed me here for a reason, and I can carry everything He put on me.”

Through two games, Taylor ranks fourth nationally in total yards per game (363) and points responsible for (48). He’s the first Bulldog quarterback since Dak Prescott to open a season with at least seven passing touchdowns and one rushing score in the first two games. The junior quarterback is just getting started, with many opportunities ahead to showcase his talent.

Mississippi State opens SEC play Saturday against South Carolina. Head coach Jeff Lebby praised Taylor’s preparation and leadership ahead of the matchup. “He had an unbelievable morning at practice,” Lebby said. “He’s going to prepare the right way and be ready to roll. Not a single thing he does surprises me.”

Fans and analysts are increasingly rallying behind Taylor as he continues to elevate his team this season.
