Alabama Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Alcorn State in Non-Conference Finale

The Alcorn State women’s volleyball team lost in straight sets to the University of Alabama on Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide won the match 25-11, 25-15, 25-18, in the teams’ final non-conference game of the season, according to the school.

Senior Courtney Carter and sophomore Rylan Jones each finished with six kills for the Lady Braves. Alabama opened the match with a dominant 25-11 victory, building a 10-4 lead early in the first set and extending it with a strong run.

The second set saw Alabama take control again, winning 25-15. The Lady Braves kept pace early, with Alcorn responding to a 10-4 deficit by scoring six straight points to tie the set at 10. Both teams exchanged points, but Alabama pulled away late to secure the win.

In the final set, Alcorn State fought to stay competitive, narrowing the score to 21-18 after a late rally. Kills from Jones, Carter, and freshman Ki’ara Knight-Thompson kept the Lady Braves within striking distance. However, Alabama scored the final four points to complete the sweep.

The Lady Braves finished the match with 19 kills, 16 assists, and eight total blocks. They will open conference play at home against Grambling State on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m., according to the school.
