Mississippi State and Florida Tie 2-2 in SEC Soccer Match

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State and Florida finished in a 2-2 draw Friday night in an SEC soccer matchup. The contest featured multiple lead changes and intense play from both teams.

Mississippi State (7-1-1, 1-0-1 SEC) took an early lead in the 11th minute when Hailey Johnson scored off a rebound after Kara Harris’ shot hit the crossbar. Despite being outshot 8-4 in the first half, State’s goalkeeper Jenny Harrison made two saves to keep the Gators from scoring.

Florida (4-3-2, 0-1-1 SEC) equalized in the 60th minute via a penalty kick by Skye Barnes after a review for a handball in the box. Four minutes later, Eden Nicholson put the Bulldogs back in front with a header assisted by Chiara Tappe. The Gators responded in the 78th minute when Kyra Taylor scored on a scramble, leveling the match at 2-2.

Both teams created scoring chances in the second half, with Mississippi State earning six corner kicks but failing to find a winning goal. Harrison finished with four saves, and the teams exchanged multiple opportunities until the final whistle.

Mississippi State will hit the road next week for matches against No. 8 Tennessee and Kentucky. The game against Tennessee will be broadcast on ESPNU Thursday at 7 p.m., followed by the trip to Kentucky on Sunday at noon, available on SEC Network+.
