Coach Derrick Moore wins seventh state title, Coahoma Co gets it done
It was a family affair at the Big House. Northside was looking to win their first state title, while Coach Derrick Moore was looking to win his seventh. He did just that as the Coahoma County Panthers put the paws on the Gators and won the game 67-34.
“The next man up is jealous of what just happened,” said Coach Moore. “Next man up is the mentality. People don’t know we take that Delta stuff seriously, man. It’s motivating to us. It’s personal. We want to prove that we can play good ball too.”
The first half of this game belonged to Coahoma County. They were in control soon as the game started. At the half the score was 29-13 in their favor.
Northside just had a hard time getting things going. Coahoma Co was in control. They were very poised, making tough shots around the basketball. It wasn’t the same for Northside. They weren’t the same team from Tuesday. At the end of the Coahoma Co was up 42-17. They held Northside to four points the whole third quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Coahoma Co. They were still running the court full of energy. Their depth was just too much for the Gators of Northside. Coahoma Co won the game 67-34.
Coach Moore isn’t new to winning championships. There is a lot of love in the Mississippi Delta. Coach Moore always speaks highly of the family environment in the Delta.
“I get a chance to work and be with my family,” said Coach Derrick Moore. “I love my family. A lot of people don’t get to work with their family. It’s people I trust and people I love.”
