After posting an eye-popping .769 batting average during a 3-1 week for Northwest, sophomore infielder McKaylee “K.K.” Polk has garnered MACCC Softball Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
Polk’s honor was made official with the announcement from the MACCC on Tuesday, March 28, an award decided based on nominations and votes from the conference’s sports information directors.
Polk finished 10-for-13 at the plate, hitting three home runs and three doubles on the week, accounting for 10 runs batted in. The Senatobia native helped the Rangers to a clean sweep at Mississippi Delta last Tuesday, before finishing with a split at East Central last Saturday.
For the season, Polk is hitting .581 with 11 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs and 40 RBIs. She has already shattered the program’s career home run record this season and owns a career total of 32 homers, surpassing Saige Koczka’s previous mark of 26 set from 2020-22.
Additionally, Northwest inched up a spot in the latest NJCAA Division II Softball Rankings on Monday, checking in at No. 3 in the nation, the highest ranking ever recorded in program history. The Rangers (18-2, 7-1 MACCC) will host Holmes on Wednesday, March 29 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
