June 26 – Fresh off the heels of announcing his signing class for the inaugural season of Northwest women’s golf, head coach Ryan Brickley has also unveiled his men’s golf roster for the 2024-25 season.
Northwest will have 13 student-athletes on this season’s roster, which marks the first year of competition since the 2016-17 season. While the roster is made up of mostly Magnolia State natives, the Rangers will also welcome Arlington, Tenn. native Evan Norman and Narit Teeranontamongkol of Bangkok, Thailand.
“I am very excited to bring this group of young men to Northwest,” Brickley said. “We have a lot of potential to build a successful program, and there will be open competition for lineup spots this fall. Most are freshmen, so we have a lot to learn, but it is going to be fun to see them grow.”
Though this will be Brickley’s first men’s golf team, two of his players will be classified as sophomores. One is Hayes Smith from Magnolia Heights School, who was the Mississippi Golf Association’s Junior Player of the Year in 2016-17, while William Linehan, Jr. will make his return to the Northwest golf program after previously competing as a freshman on the Rangers’ 2016-17 team.
As for the incoming freshmen, Drew Dabbs was the top player for Eupora High School on last fall’s state championship squad. He also finished as a medalist in three tournaments during his high school career.
Kosciusko native Jeremy Gibson also joins the Rangers’ roster after finishing No. 5 in the state for scoring average, among senior public school competitors. Gibson also helped Kosciusko High School to a district championship and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player for three straight years as a sophomore, junior and senior.
Joining Gibson will be his twin brother, Joshua, who also competed at Kosciusko High School. Like his brother, Joshua also comes in with several accolades, including Co-MVP honors from 2022-23 and a 12th-place finish in the 2023 state championship event. Joshua also won the Louisville Invitational with an even-par, while also finishing as a co-medalist in the 2023 Kosciusko Invitational.
Garrett Wright (Southaven) arrives at Northwest following a solid prep career. Wright was a member of the 2023 All-Region team at DeSoto Central, and placed first at the Riverbend Invitational, while earning a third place finish at the South Panola Invitational.
Matthew Cummings (Grenada) was a two-time MVP at Grenada High School and qualified for the Class 6A State Championship tournament. Cummings won a pair of events in the regular season and helped the Chargers to a first place district finish as a freshman.
Logan Drumwright, another Magnolia Heights product, will also join Brickley’s team for this season. Drumwright qualified individually for the MAIS Tournament, while also finishing first for individual scoring in the MAIS North State Tournament. He also won three tournaments as a senior, while helping the Chiefs to a fourth-place finish in the state.
Cameron Nabors, Alan John, Jr. and Landon Masterson will round out the Magnolia State natives on this year’s squad. John, Jr. (Pearl River) was a two-sport athlete at Choctaw Central High School, while Masterson (Batesville) and Nabors (Southaven) competed at South Panola High School and Northpoint Christian School, respectively.
A varsity player in all four years at Arlington High School, Norman helped the Tigers qualify for the region tournament every year from 2020-23. Arlington also finished with three straight third place finishes in the district tournament, while earning a district runner-up finish in 2020. Additionally, Norman was also the team’s Most Improved Player in 2021 and was named to the AHS Golf Hall of Fame last fall.
Hailing from Thailand, Teeranontamongkol will be Brickley’s lone international athlete on this year’s roster, after competing at the International Junior Golf Academy.
As for this season’s schedule, Northwest is putting the finishing touches on the expected slate, which will be posted on nwccrangers.com when finalized.
