Coahoma to recognize 20 sophomores before football finale
Coahoma Community College planned to recognize 20 departing sophomores before its scheduled football season finale against Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Thursday, according to the school. The game was listed for James E. Miller Stadium in Clarksdale.
The class includes eight offensive players, 10 defenders and two special teams players. Quarterbacks Jacob Clopton and Tierral Rials Jr. are among the offensive sophomores. Clopton had 138 passing yards and an 8-yard rushing touchdown in the team’s recent matchup with Northeast Mississippi, the school said.
Running backs Isaac Day and Prentavis Madison also scored against Northeast. Day ran for a 6-yard touchdown, while Madison scored on a 2-yard run. Tight end Anthony Thurman and offensive linemen Cameron Chambers, JaSean Miller and Rahim Johnson round out the offense’s sophomore group.
On defense, Coahoma highlighted linemen Jakarious Fields, Derrion Gould, Lester Westbrooks, Dacaris Brown and Antonio Gipson. Brown recorded a 10-yard sack against Northeast, while Gould had four sacks against Mississippi Delta earlier in the month, according to the school.
The sophomore defensive backs are Deshaun Brooks, Xaylen Henderson, Brandon Mitchell, Ardavius Harris and Arlanders Stovall. Mitchell returned an interception 32 yards against Northeast, and Harris led the team with seven tackles last Saturday, the school said.
Kicker Andrew Harrison and long snapper Christian Higgins make up the special teams contingent. Coahoma said the departing sophomores helped shape the program under coach Larry Williams. The school also listed West Tallahatchie, Humphreys County, Simmons and South Panola among the high schools represented in the class.
