William Carey Women’s Golf Finishes Second at Carey Collegiate

The William Carey women’s golf team finished in a tie for second place at the Carey Collegiate tournament held at Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Lady Crusaders shot rounds of 312, 292, and 309 over the course of the event, which was played Monday and Tuesday.

William Carey started strong, opening the tournament in third place after the first round. Taamtond Nivasananda led the team with a 3-over-par 75. She improved her score in the second round, shaving three strokes off to move into the top five individually. Nivasananda finished the tournament tied for fifth after a final-round 77.

Kenley Archer and Nawaporn Kompoj were among the top performers. Archer shot a 1-over-par 73 in the second round to finish tied for seventh, while Kompoj was tied for 14th after the second round. Gracelyn Cooley finished just outside the top 10, and Alejandra Esteban moved into a tie for 16th heading into the final round. Sirikorn Anantathanasarn also shot a 73 in the second round and ended the tournament tied for 10th.

On Tuesday, the Lady Crusaders faced some challenges, and Nivasananda slipped to a tie for fifth after a final-round 77. Cooley moved into the top 10 with a 4-over-par final round, and Anantathanasarn finished tied for 10th. Esteban ended the tournament in 14th place, while Archer was tied for 15th. Kompoj completed the lineup in a tie for 22nd.

The team is scheduled to compete next on Oct. 5 at the NAIA National Preview in Dalton, Georgia, hosted by Dalton State at Dalton Country Club.
